Dave Huismans' Aerial record was almost unanimously voted Best in Class for 08, and now he returns with Unbalance - another belter. Mixing house with dubstep and detroit garage, Unbalance shows an artist at the top of his game. That'll be the Best of 09 lists topped then.
Hudson Mo's debut has finally dropped, and boy is it a belter. Destroying pre-conceived notions of what he's about, Mohawke has side-stepped the hip hop and embraced 80's pop on Butter, all the while keeping the twisted synths and furious drums of his earlier work.
The mysterious Kode 9 is responsible for one of the most important labels of the last decade - Hyperdub. Having released material from the likes of Burial and Joker as well as his own recordings, Hyperdub has been a massively influental force in shaping the sound of Dubstep, as well as the myriad styles that burst forth out of this most fertile of scenes. Now, to celebrate their 5th anniversary, Kode9 has put together '5', a double album of new and classic tracks from the label vaults. If you were there in the beginning, this is a fantastic opportunity to admire the journey the label has travelled; if you're new to the scene, there's no better place to start.
